This insightful post by Thorsten von Eicken recently got me thinking. The
term “Cloud Computing” is much too vague. People want and need
“slots” or “segments” where they can group things. This is how the
mind operates through categorization and ordering. So, to possibly help with
this, I would like to propose a “Cloud Pyramid” to help differentiate the
various Cloud offerings out there.
There are other ways to display this hierarchy, however I elected to show it
as a pyramid. For example, if one were to weight the graphic by the number of
providers within each segment, the pyramid would be upside-down. The point
here though is to show how these cloud segments build upon and are somewhat
dependent upon each other. While they are directly related, they don’t
require interdependence (e.g., a Cloud Application does not necessarily have
to be built upon a Cloud Platfor... (more)
Michael Sheehan's GoGrid Blog
The Cloud just got another potential injection of PR from Apple as well with
their announcement of MobileMe. Apple has brought a new technology term, the
'Cloud' - previously reserved for developers, IT managers and the like - to
the main-stream public. We all know that the term 'Cloud Computing' is
relatively new to the Technology buzz. But just how new is it?
I spent some time analyzing search trends of different computing keywords to
try to put everything in perspective. Google trends is a nice too that gives
insight into broad search patterns.

Cloud Expo on Ulitzer
I’m going to try something new here. Cloud Computing news breaks all of the
time.
While in the past, I have focused mainly on GoGrid product announcements and
lengthy commentary on articles that talk about Cloud Computing, I have
realized that there is so much happening within the atmosphere that sometimes
it is hard to keep up.
So, I’m going to try (emphasis on try) to scour the daily news and
blogosphere for anything related to Cloud Computing that I see as relevant,
timely and/or interesting post a link to the article and write my 2 cents

GoGrid Session at Cloud Expo
A few months ago, we introduced MyGSIs (personal server images) which allow
users to create custom personal GSI (GoGrid Server Images) with all of their
code, applications and data.
These personal server images are then compressed and stored in GoGrid’s
Cloud Storage for use later instantiating copies of those MyGSIs within a
user’s GoGrid cloud.
Building upon that framework, backend structure and concept, we have released
Partner GSIs and the GoGrid Exchange.
A Partner GSI appears in the same list of servers or sandboxes available for
deployment.

Opening Keynote at Cloud Expo
Cloud Computing Expo - I guess that I’m a bit late in the game here to
throw my predictions into the clouds but late is better than never, right? It
has been an exciting year for us here at GoGrid. We had many stellar and
innovative announcements which you can read about here. Before I quickly go
into some of my thoughts for 2010, it makes sense to see how well I did for
2009. My original predictions were here and were as follows (coupled with a
quick analysis).
Cloud Reduce the Effect of the Recession – Businesses definitely did not
spend as much l... (more)
